Other Family Visas
Aged Dependent Relative
This visa is for family members who are aged single, widowed or divorced who are financially dependent on their Australian relative and have been dependent for at least two years. This visa does not have any provisions for people who are merely emotionally dependent.
 
Remaining Relative
This visa is for overseas relatives with all of their family members living in Australia as Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents or Eligible New Zealand Citizen. One of your Australian relatives or their spouse will need to sponsor you for this visa.
 
Base Requirements
Your Sponsor
your sponsor will need to be usually resident in Australian and either an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. They will need to sign an undertaking stating they will take care of you, emotionally, financially (if required) and provide you accommodation in needed.
 
The Applicant
Will need to provide evidence that they are the only living relative outside of Australia. Relative defined for this visa only relates to immediate family, such as spouse (and your spouses immediate family) brothers, sisters, parents and step brothers, sisters and parents. You will also need to pass health and character testing for this visa.
 
Assurance of Support
You will need to have an assurer to lodge and assurance of support for this visa. The assurance will require assets testing and proof of employment to ensure they are able to assist you. Your sponsor can be also be your assurer.
 
Australia values statement
You will be required to sign the Australian Values Statement in order to apply for this visa. You must read the Life in Australia booklet before signing.
 
Carer Category
This visas is for people who wish to live in Australia to take care of an Australian relative or member of their family who needs care due to a medical condition which is impairs them physically, intellectually or any other condition which makes daily live without care difficult.
 
To be defined as a relative for any of the above visas you must be;
  • Child
  • Parent
  • Brother or sister
  • Grandparent
  • Grandchild
  • Aunt or uncle
  • Niece or nephew
  • Step relative of the same degree.
