This is none of your business!

The breakdown of a relationship, other than a significant short-term relationship of one or two nights, can be a traumatic experience. However, it can be positively, or perhaps, that should be negatively life changing, where the parties are also involved in a business relationship.

As a general and untested observation, I suspect many relationship breakdowns result directly or indirectly from financial problems, with an accompanying breakdown in communication. You owe it to yourself, or at least your partner, to do whatever you can to remove or reduce the many and varied paths to unsettled relationships. Alternatively, I suppose you can recognise, that this could be the catalyst that you’re looking for, to terminate that relationship which is going nowhere.

Sometimes, the lack of communication in these stressful times can be a welcome relief, but this almost always reflects on the smooth running, and successful operation of the business. More important is the impact on the profitability of the business, to the detriment of both parties.

Here is the first piece of advice:

Ending a relationship is like cutting yourself with a razor blade!

It is going to hurt whatever you do, so you might as well do it quickly, and get on with the rest of your life! The same is equally true of your business relationships. Procrastination here can lead to poverty!

It is important here to distinguish between businesses which are effectively dependent on one or both of the parties, and a larger business where there is an existing and well operated management structure in place with trained staff.
