The emergence of artificial intelligence has had tremendous effects on social and political structures, particularly within the workforce arena. Artificial intelligence algorithms have given us the ability to process fast growing datasets.
In turn, this has created a plight of ethical questions around the boundaries on how far Artificial intelligence should and will grow in the future. Particularly, can artificial intelligence be ethical in the growingly digital world?
When looking at the ethical challenges artificial intelligence faces in today’s digital space, its moral challenges are unprecedented. As technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, artificial intelligence algorithms are gaining autonomy and intelligence that have already had significant social implications on the idea of what human autonomy and moral responsibility is.
As it stands, artificial intelligence can be used ethically and can benefit society in its ability to personalise digital experiences. But artificial intelligence can only become ethical if there are frameworks put in place to implement a communal responsibility between the developers, the industry, policymakers and the general public and, in turn, to create boundaries around what artificial intelligence can be used for.
Therefore, in order to combat these issues around ethicality, we must develop regulatory and ethical frameworks in which we examine and push artificial intelligence. Our view is that artificial intelligence is neither bad or good but whether it can be ethical depends on how we continuously develop alongside such rapid changes in the digital space.
